I’m excited to talk with Shonagh Home about her extensive experience with shamanism, and how we can apply it in practical ways today to improve our lives. We had a spectacular conversation you’ll want to listen to.
Below in the show notes, you’ll also find 5 practical steps you can take right now to start bringing the wisdom and benefits of shamanism into your life.
Shonagh Home – The Ancient Art of Shamanic Practice and its Promise for Healing and Awakening
Shonagh Home is an author, international speaker, shamanic therapist and teacher of the shamanic arts. She is a woman of Celtic ancestry and works with people around the world to help them heal and awaken. Her specialized private sessions are probing and revelatory, assisting clients to break chronic, self-defeating patterns, and move into empowered personal sovereignty.
She brought us a different and much deeper perspective.
Shamanism is a healer or a seer who bridges the world of the seen with the world of the unseen. Shamans (the elders) have been around in our history for hundreds and hundred of years.
We spoke about the type of deep soul realizations shamanism has brought to her life and others. And she shared some of the very practical tools you can apply to your life today.
Shonagh Home Shares 5 Practical Steps You can use to Improve Your Life Today
1. Bringing in the Power of Nature
Turn off the tv and spend less time on the computer and more time in nature – the REAL world. Visit the Olympic National Rainforest and other national treasures before they are gone forever. There are many spirits in those places. Bring offerings of tobacco or honey, something natural that will break down, and find a place that calls to you and leave those offerings as a gift to the local spirits. This is the beginning of forming relationships with them as our ancestors once did.
2. Attuning to Your Ancestors
Learn as much as you can about your ancient ancestors, their myths and stories, their folk ways, their beliefs. Attune yourself to the old gods of your people. The more we learn about our ancestors the more we call back a sense of belonging to our cultural roots and origins that have been all but lost in western society. Every bloodline has magical roots. The key is to learn as much as we possibly can about our ancient ancestors and the gods they respected.
3. Engage Spirit Daily
Engage spirit daily through ritual, prayer/conversation, particularly calling in your ancient ancestors. Humans have long honored their ancestors and it was understood that they would assist and guide us if we held their memory sacred. Shamans have always known well the importance of ancestral protection and guidance.
4. Honor Your Body
Special diets were often a part of shamanic practices and it is imperative that we return to eating real foods that are nutrient-dense, as they have a direct affect on consciousness. Move your body – exercise, preferably in nature. Walk or run a forest path. There is a very different vibration there that soothes the body/mind and enables one to cultivate a spiritual relationship with that forest or park setting.
5. Seek a Guide
Seek out a spirit guide. Ask for one to make itself known to you and then cultivate a relationship with it by dedicating an altar to it and engaging it daily in your thoughts.
